Medical Lab Technician

Performs routine and standard laboratory tests and procedures on various biological specimens, following procedures and instructions as outlined in procedure manual(s) using standard and specialized techniques, instrumentation and equipment to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Verifies correctness of test results by following established quality control, quality assurance procedures and practices. Brings to attention of technologist, senior technologist or supervisor results that fall outside specified limits.Requirements1.Education and Training
Associate Degree from accredited college including training in an approved program or equivalent; must obtain certification from accredited recognized agency or organization (e.g., ASCP, AMT, NCA, etc.) within 6 months of hire.
2.Experience
One year related laboratory experience preferred.
3.Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications
Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed laboratory procedures, protocols, and instructions.
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate and troubleshoot sophisticated equipment, identifies, and corrects technical problems.
Ability to work under stress, communicate test results to physicians, nursing units, and/or other authorized personnel.
Skill in use of computers or ability to acquire such skills to operate application packages used by department.
Requires annual successful completion of all regulatory required testing related competencies.
4.Physical Requirements
Requires full range of body motion which may include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
May require exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
